Biden, in his remarks, said there was “verbal abuse,” “anger” and “constant interruptions” on behalf of senators during Jackson’s confirmation process.

The president said some senators threw the “most vile, baseless assertions and accusations” against Jackson.

He also noted that Jackson faced more than 20 hours of questioning and nearly 100 meetings, making herself available to “every single senator” who wanted to talk to her.

“In the face of it all, Judge Jackson, showed incredible character and integrity she possesses,” Biden said. “We all saw the kind of justice she’ll be: fair and impartial, thoughtful, careful, precise, brilliant, a brilliant legal mind with deep knowledge of the law and a judicial temperament, which is equally important.”

Biden also took the opportunity to note that Jackson’s confirmation is the result of one his key campaign promises — naming a Black woman to the court.

We’re going to look back and see this is a moment of real change in American history,” Biden said.
